Whenever people talk about the GMC HUMMER EV supertruck, one of the first things they mention is the truck’s ability to move diagonally. Known as the Crabwalk feature, it allows the huge vehicle to better maneuver in awkward situations, especially while off-roading. The truck can move sideways around obstacles or even while parking. It is really kind of freaky to watch in person. Now, the 2026 HUMMER EV will have an upgraded version called the King Crab off-road rear-steer mode. Even better, all of the previous GMC HUMMERs will be able to download the upgraded King Crab feature.

“The refreshed HUMMER EV enhances an already amazing vehicle with new software innovations and forward-thinking design,” said Al Oppenheiser, GMC HUMMER EV chief engineer. “From the start, we aimed to provide HUMMER EV owners over-the-air software updates. All 2026 HUMMER EV owners will have access to our latest software going forward, allowing new features to be introduced throughout the vehicle's lifecycle.”

King Crab Off-Road Feature

King Crab takes the HUMMER EV’s standard four-wheel steer ability to the next level. Even better, King Crab is standard across the 2X and 3X Pickup and SUV trims. GMC CrabWalk is a 4-Wheel Steer mode, which lets the rear wheels turn at the same angle as the front wheels at low vehicle speeds up to 25 mph. When King Crab mode is activated, the rear wheels turn significantly faster than the front wheels. That results in more maneuverability when navigating tight spaces off-road. It will help drivers moving around obstacle, rock crawling or even parking. GMC says that no other 4x4 offers this kind of rear wheel agility. The Crab Walk feature is made possible by the unique way that EVs are configured, with drive motors placed near the wheels.

King Crab won’t just be available on the 2026 model. King Crab is also expected to launch to all 2022 through 2025 HUMMER EV Pickup and SUV owners through an OTA update available later this year.

2026 GMC HUMMER EV Carbon Fiber Edition Adds Faster Acceleration

The 2026 GMC HUMMER EV also offers slightly quicker acceleration. GMC HUMMER EV Carbon Fiber Edition Pickup offers 0-60 mph launches in just 2.8 seconds. Earlier versions do 0-60 in 3 seconds. The Carbon Fiber limited edition is available for the 3X Pickup and the SUV, but only a limited number of each will be produced.

All Carbon Fiber Edition Pickups and SUVs feature an exclusive Magnus Gray Matte exterior and Velocity Ember interior.

Carbon Fiber Edition Features:

  • Available 24-module battery
  • Unique 22-inch carbon fiber black wheels
  • All-Terrain tires
  • Carbon fiber inserts in the mirror caps and skid plate
  • Black approach shield
  • Black emblems

2026 HUMMER EVs Offer New Charging Capabilities

For 2026, the HUMMER EV will offer bidirectional charging capability for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-home. With vehicle-to-vehicle, the 2026 HUMMER EV can transfer power to another compatible EV. Also, a properly equipped 2026 HUMMER EV can provide vehicle-to-home power in a blackout.

The capability continues with the available 24-module HUMMER EV 3X Pickup delivering 1,160 horsepower and 13,000 lb.-ft. of torque, which makes it the most powerful truck available in its class.

The 13.4-inch diagonal premium GMC infotainment center includes a customizable split view screen for access to important vehicle data. OnStar connectivity means owners will receive intelligent EV routing, alerting drivers to the closest available charge points. The EVs also offer voice assistance and access to apps like Chrome, GameSnacks, and Prime Video.

The HUMMER EV Pickup and SUV continue to symbolize the premium off-road lifestyle. HUMMER EVs offer GMC’s signature luxury appointments with bold on-road styling. The EVs are large and eye-catching but offer GMC’s attention to detail. At 9,000 pounds, the pickups are built to perform and be noticed.

When We Will See the 2026 GMC HUMMER EVs

Production of the 2026 HUMMER EV will begin later this year at GM’s Factory ZERO located on the border of Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan. The plant builds GMC’s three all-electric trucks: the GMC HUMMER EV Pickup, HUMMER EV SUV and Sierra EV.

The 2026 HUMMER EV Pickup and SUV will be available at GMC EV dealers later this year. Pricing and GM-estimated range will be announced closer to launch.
